We are super excited to have Winemaker Mike host a night in our lounge - not only because he is one talented craftsman, he also is the true epitomy of the “garagiste” winemaker. These are winemakers who start with nothing - they borrow equipment, buy grapes, do anything to produce a wine - perhaps even in their “garage” where the name originates.
Having a background as a musican probably helped him with this mentality but he felt there “weren’t enough poor winemakers out there.” Everyone was starting off rich and producing wines commercially with little soul. He purchased his grapes from the Eau Vivre plots of land in the Similkameen and has made them as naturally as possible. His glass is locally sourced and as highly recycled as he could find. The grape, Pinot Noir, is a thin skinned varietal known as the Heartbreak Grape because it can be so hard to grow. It is lighter in body, with refreshing red fruits (cherries, raspberries) and earthy notes of cedar and forest floor.
