Dearest of friends,
In April of 2010 we opened the doors a charming, quaint, and definitely rustic restaurant at 505 Quayle Rd at the (then) Glendale Gardens. We named it Nourish. The first three years of business gave us learning experiences we could have never dreamed of, and our space slowly transformed into something beautiful, homey and completely unique.
As our roots sank deeper our business and our community flourished. We built relationships with guests, with suppliers, and with our employees. We became known throughout the city for the quality of our food, our attention to detail and the beauty of our space. Somedays we felt like a weed, growing like crazy despite conditions that some said we would never overcome. And yet all of you kept coming. You kept bringing friends. You kept believing.
As we grew and grew, we knew that our magical space at the (now) Horticultural Centre of the Pacific would be able to give us the growing room we needed for only so long. Two and a half years ago we began looking for the space that would be able to house the size of our dreams. Nothing seemed like the right home to transplant our living, breathing and growing business into until we found 225 Quebec St.
We knew as soon as we walked in that Nourish would find it’s home in this stunning heritage house. It has room for a dining room, a café, parties, workshops, retail space and an urban farm - everything we had been dreaming of and talking about since the beginning.
As with anything that grows, there is a time to plant and a time to prune. We feel half planted right now, our roots still at the Garden, but our growth bursting out the seams at the Harbour.
And so it is time to prune.
Sunday December 6th will be the last day of service for Nourish in the Gardens. There are no words for the gratitude we have for each and every one of you who has been a part of our journey. All of you were learning experiences. All of you are a piece of who we now are. All of you are welcome in our home always, whichever home that may be.
Here’s the spoiler: our hearts are only a little bit sad because we know that the next chapter of the double wide trailer Nourish called home for so long is going to be amazing. A special little place will still be there. Charlotte will still be there. Our food philosophy will still be there. Our commitment to sourcing locally and ethically will still be there. Our ever growing dreams will still be there. This book may seem to be ending, but in truth a whole new series is just about to begin.
The Nourish Crew.
